The difference between chrome and nickel plating

What we often call chrome plating is decorative chrome plating, which is a brighter colour, closer to silver. With nickel plating, the colour is more yellowish.
The uniformity of chrome plating is slightly better than nickel plating. The salt spray test time for chrome plating is also longer than for nickel plating.
Nickel plating is used to improve corrosion resistance and to increase the hardness of the surface. Very thick plating flattens the surface.
Chrome plating also improves corrosion resistance and gives a bright surface, it is costly and is mostly used for cosmetic purposes.
There are two types of chrome plating, decorative chrome and hard chrome. Hard chrome plating is a better way to increase the hardness of the surface, but it has many advantages and disadvantages.
Chrome plating has many advantages and disadvantages and is therefore used in many cases. Advantage one, good surface finish, advantage two, no rust, no rust spots at all; three, small deformation of the original part during the plating process. Fourthly, if the part is not dimensioned properly, it can be dimensioned by adding a few threads of chrome, which is, of course, an advantage and a disadvantage, because a margin has to be put in when designing the chrome-plated part.
